On May 31, Mme.Li Xiaolin, the president of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries met with Mme. Christine Lieberknecht, Minister-president of Free State of Thuringia and Chairwoman of the German Conference of Minister-Presidents. President Li Xiaolin briefed the guests on the overall situation of International friendship cities in China and expressed the appreciation to the efficient exchange between the State of Thuringia and the Province of Shaanxi after twinning. Vice president Li Jianping also attended the meeting, he introduced the 4th Sino-European Agricultural Seminar which is going to be held by our association in Ningxia Autonomous Region this September and invited agriculture minister of Northern Ireland to attend the seminar. Mr. Robinson and Mr. McGuinness appreciated the warm invitation and considerate arrangement for their visit. They made a general introduction on Northern Ireland local government and indicated that Northern Ireland’s economy is recovering from the lowered growth as an influence of European debt crisis. Northern Ireland is willing to have a new partnership with China, to promote mutual trade and cooperation in various fields. On May 28th, Mme. Li Xiaolin, the president of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries(CPAFFC), met with Mr. Antonio Villaraigosa, the mayor of Los Angeles, who is visiting China at the invitation of the CPAFFC. The two sides exchanged views on China’s contact to Los Angeles, exchange and cooperation between the Chinese and American local governments. During the visit, President Xi Jinping met with Mayor? On May 27, Mme. Li Xiaolin, the president of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries met with Mr. Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Education and Employment of Malta. President Li Xiaolin listened up to the proposal from the minister on China-Europe Friendship Conference. The theme of the conference is Sustainable Blue Economy and is expected to be held in Malta in 2014. Organized by CPAFFC and Malta, the conference will invite people engaged in marine industry and related fields from China and Europe to discuss the topics of environment protection and marine industry, marine law and fight against pirates. On May 17th, President Li Xiaolin hosted a welcome dinner for H.R.H Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei Darussalam. Vice President Feng Zuoku, Former Ambassador to Brunei and Vice President of China-Brunei Friendship Association(CBFA) Liu Xinsheng and his spouse, H.E. Ms. Magdalene Teo, Ambassador of Brunei to China were present. President Li said that Princess Masna was the old friend of Chinese People and deserved the title of "People’s Friendship Ambassador"conferred by CPAFFC. Princess’s many visits to China showed the great importance attached to the Brunei-China friendship. Madame Li expressed that China and Brunei were friendly neighbours, the bilateral relations had developed smoothly since 1991 with deepening exchanges and cooperation in the field of politics, economic and trade, culture and so on. The CBFA and Brunei-China Friendship Association(BCFA) had made positive efforts in this regard. President Li also briefed Princess on CPAFFC and its work. Princess Masna thanked President Li for hosting the dinner. She sang a high praise of the development of Brunei-China relations and indicated that Brunei-China Strategic Cooperation Relationship established earlier this year meant a new stage of the bilateral relations. Princess hoped the BCFA and CBFA would make continuous contribution to the friendship and cooperation between two countries. On April 28th, Mme. Li Xiaolin, the president of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries met with Mr. Nicolae Vasilescu, the chairman of Romanian-Chinese House and the executive secretary of the Romanian Social Democratic Party. President Li Xiaolin made a brief introduction on the CPAFFC. She said, the CPAFFC would enhance understanding and friendship of the people around the world just as always. The CPAFFC attached great importance to city diplomacy and soft power diplomacy. In order to make the world know China and support China’s development, the CPAFFC actively took part in international conferences. The situations varied from country to country, thus the people-to-people contact was particularly important. Romanian-Chinese House had made great contribution to the contact and friendship between the Chinese and Romanian people, and would be expected to innovate upon the forms of exchange in the new era. Mr. Vasilescu introduced the form and working emphasis of Romanian-Chinese House. He appreciated the CPAFFC for its support and assistance to the events held by Romanian-Chinese House. He praised the CPAFFC for its distinguished contribution on people-to-people diplomacy and international exchanges. Romanian-Chinese House was planning to held the Conference of All European Friendly-to-China Organizations in this November in Romania. The CPAFFC was expected to attend and support the conference. President Li Xiaolin expressed that the CPAFFC would dispatch a delegation to attend the conference.

At the invitation of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Mme. Li Xiaolin, President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Honorable Chairman of the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development, attended the Global Vaccine Summit held in Abu Dhabi between April 24 and 25. The Summit was jointly initiated by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and Bill Gates. About 200 people, including senior government officials from 46 countries, representatives of international organizations and NGOs, were invited to the summit. The goals of the Summit is to celebrate global commitment to immunization, starting with polio eradication, to highlight the critical links between ending polio, strengthening routine immunization, and improving overal child health, and to profile Islamic leadership in improving child health and ensuring all children are immunized. During the Summit, Mme. Li introduced the great achievements made by China in eradicating polio and establishing a comprehensive immunization system, and shared China''s experiences with other countries. Mme. Li also discussed with Mr. Bill Gates on the possible cooperation between the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the future.?

President Li Xiaolin met with Mr. V·V·Ratnikov, the vice president of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) on April 22. President Li welcomed the Russian guests to visit the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC). She introduced the progress of the preparation for the meeting of local leaders between the two countries and the exchange mechanism of the elite youth delegations, which organized by the CPAFFC and Rossotrudnichestvo, as well as the cooperative willingness of holding relevant activities within the framework of China-Russia Tourism Year. President Li also requested Mr. Ratnikov to convey her greetings to President Konstantion Kosachev. Mr. Ratnikov thanked President Li for taking time for the meeting and conveyed the sincere respects of President Konstantion Kosachev to her. He said Rossotrudnichestvo paid great attention to the meeting of the local leaders between the two countries and the youth exchange project which was being prepared together with the CPAFFC. He also expressed that the cooperation between the both sides within the framework of China-Russia Tourism Year were also with wide range and great potential.
