On 13th February，President Li Xiaolin met with Mr. Gregg Ward, Senior Vice President for Global Government Relations of United Technologies Company in Beijing. President Li briefed Mr. Ward on CPAFFC’s recent exchanges and cooperation programs with other countries and expressed the willingness to work together with the U.S. business community to further promote the China-US friendship. Mr. Ward expressed thanks to President Li for meeting him and emphasized that the Chinese market is of strategic importance to the future development of UTC. They also exchanged views on collaborating to conduct projects of China-US friendly exchanges and public welfare.

President Li Xiaoling met with and held a luncheon for Ms. Nancy Hernreich Bowen, Managing Directer, Teneo Strategy (Asia) on 10th February in Beijing. President Li briefed Ms. Bowen on the work of people-to-people diplomacy CPAFFC carried out with the United States over the past years, noting that the strengthening of people-to-people exchange between our two nations can play a critical role in helping build a new type of major country relationship between China and the USA. Ms. Bowen expressed thanks to President Li for taking time out of her busy schedule to meet with her, and she said that the closer economic and trade cooperation is conducive to the overall development of China-US relations, she was willing to provide necessary assistance. On the afternoon of January, 8th, 2014, CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin met with H.E. Mr. Mahesh Kumar Maskey, the ambassador of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to China. President Li Xiaolin welcomed Ambassador Maskey to visit the CPAFFC, and briefed him about the major works on people-to-people contact, establishment of friendship cities, Sino-foreign cultural exchanges that has done by the CPAFFC since its establishment 60 years ago, as well as series programs of 2014 China-Nepal Cities Culture Dialogue being held in Nepal by the time. Ambassador Maskey thanked President Li Xiaolin for finding time for the meeting in her tight schedule. He said, Nepal always cherished the friendly relation with China, especially the cooperation and contact with the CPAFFC. He deemed cultural exchanges greatly significant to people-to-people friendship and development of bilateral relation. He also expressed that, long before he took his post in China, he had heard about the important role as a platform the CPAFFC played in people-to-people contact between China and Nepal, and finally his wish of visiting the CPAFFC was granted on this day. Ambassador Maskey told President Li Xiaolin that, there was a debate on how to choose the social developing mode in Nepal. Since the development of China had achieved great result in recent years, he suggested the both sides to hold seminars and exchanges to enhance the mutual understanding and further promote the relation between China and Nepal. Besides, Ambassador Maskey also invited President Li Xiaolin to attend the Nepal Cultural Festival which will be held in Beijing this year. President Li Xiaolin said, Nepal and China are friendly neighboring countries, China’s development has brought opportunities of development to the neighboring countries including Nepal. The both sides could explore and hold academic discussions and cultural exchanges with the theme of mutual trust, cooperation and all win. The both sides were willing to consolidate and develop the cooperation in culture, especially the contact and cooperation of high-level scholars, based on the Memo on cooperation signed by the CPAFFC and Nepal World Culture Net, so as to jointly promote the all-around partnership passed on from generation to generation of the two countries.

On Dec. 27, CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin met with Mr. Gian Franco Terenzi, President of San Marino-China Friendship Association and former Captain Regent of San Marino. President Li Xiaolin joyfully recalled her visit to San Marino in this September. She expressed that she was pleasant to meet with the old friends again, and spoke highly of President Terenzi’s effort and contribution to promoting the friendship between China and San Marino. She invited President Terenzi as an old friend of the Chinese people to attend the commemorative activities celebrating 60th anniversary of the establishment of the CPAFFC in May, 2014. President Terenzi said, it had been 25 years since San Marino-China Friendship Association was established. The cooperation with the CPAFFC had been closer and closer. It was a great pleasure to be invited to attend the celebrating activities. CAFFC Vice President Li Jianping, Song Jingwu, Director-General of European and Asian Affairs were present at the meeting.

Meeting with President U Thein Sein At the invitation of the Myanmar-China Friendship Association (MCFA), President Li Xiaolin led a 6-member CPAFFC delegation and visited Myanmar from Dec. 18th to 21st, 2013. During the visit, President Li paid a courtesy call to U Thein Sein, President of Myanmar and met U Htay Oo, Vice Chairman of Union Solidarity and Development Party and Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of National League of Democracy. President Li had a work meeting with MCFA President U Sein Win Aung and the two associations reached a lot of consensus on the high-level exchanges and cooperation on culture, youth and charity work between the two countries. President Li made a special visit to the Yangon University of Foreign Language and held a friendship dialogue with the teachers and students of the Chinese Department. President Li encouraged them to carry forward and develop the China-Myanmar traditional friendship. On Dec. 16th, Mme. Li Xiaolin, the president of the CPAFFC met with Miyamoto Yuji, the former Japanese ambassador to China and the vice president of Japan-China Friendship Center. The both sides exchanged views on China-Japan relations and other issues.

On December 10th, President Li Xiaolin met with Neil Bush and representatives of The Texas A&M University System. Neil Bush is the third son of the 41st U.S. President George Herbert Walker Bush and the younger brother of George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States. The two sides held a discussion on co-hosting George H.W. Bush 6th Biennial China-U.S. Relations Conference in Beijing in September, 2014.

On Dec. 9th , CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin attended the launching ceremony of Culture Envoy Fund and had a meeting with Mr. Jiang Kun, Chairman of China Ballad Singers Association, Mr. Feng Shuangbai, member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Executive Vice-Chairman of? Chinese Dancers Association (CDA), Mr. Chen Weiya, member of CPPCC and Vice Chairman of CDA, and their companions. President Li welcomed the artists for their visiting the CPAFFC. She briefed them about the status of our association and the preparation for the 60th anniversary of CPAFFC’s establishment. She expressed that the CPAFFC would like to strengthen the cooperation with the literary and art circles of China, so as to reveal the Chinese culture to the world better. Mr. Jiang Kun thanked President Li for taking time for this meeting, and introduced the situation that the Chinese cultural and art circles carry out intangible cultural exchanges with foreign countries. He expressed that he would take part in the correlative events organized by the CPAFFC, and jointly promote the Going out Strategy of the Chinese culture. Culture?Envoy Fund was established on 1 million Yuan donated by Beijing Ivy Road Education Investment Co., LTD, aiming for going abroad to introduce and reveal the brilliant and rich intangible cultural heritages of China, in form of performance and exhibition brought by the Chinese youth.

On Nov. 28, President Li Xiaolin met with Mr. Sakashita? Shigenobu, Chairman of Board of TOMAC Corporation and Numata Toshiharu, Chief Representative for China of Kao Corporation at the CPAFFC. President Li said, it was pleasant to meet her old friend again, and she appreciate that Mr. Sakashita introduced new friend to the CPAFFC. At the present situation, we expected more Japanese friends to work more for enhancing China-Japan friendship. China and Japan were close neighbors, the both countries should further strength people-to-people friendly contact, especially exchanges in culture, art and economic cooperation. The combination of the Japanese technique and the Chinese market would benefit the both sides and the peaceful development of Asia and the world. Mr. Sakashita said, under the current serious condition, as the nongovernmental organizations, they were planning some people-to-people exchanging events in culture, art and economy among China, Japan and R.O. Korea. It is expected those events could receive the support from the CPAFFC. Mr. Numata introduced the course of Kao Corporation’s development in China. He wished to make greater efforts for China’s continuous development with the advanced technology. President Li expressed her support to Mr. Sakashita’s idea, and gave her acknowledgement and best wishes to the development of Kao Corporation. Zhang Ju Xiang, Director-General of China Service Center for Friendship and Cooperation with Foreign Countries was present at the meeting.
