On May 26, President Li Xiaolin met with US Western Region Mayors Delegation headed by former Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa. President Li introduced the purposes of the Association and said that in the past 60 years, the Association has been engaged in promoting the friendship, people to people exchanges, local government cooperation between China and the US and has conducted many productive programs. She hope that through the visit, the delegation would gain a better understanding of China, especially its mid-west region and the rural area, and explore sister cities relations with China. Mayor Villaraigosa spoke highly of the achievement made by the Association under the leadership of President Li. He said that friendship, cooperation and exchanges between cities form the foundation of Chin-US relations. The visit is important for the delegation to increase mutual understanding and cooperation. The delegation is composed of 8 mayors, deputy mayors and former mayors from California and Nevada. The cities and provinces it will visit include Beijing, Hubei，Sichuan and Guangdong. ?

On the morning of May 26th, CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin met with Mr. Hiromasa Yonekura, Chaiman of Japan Business Federation and his delegation who were visiting China at CPAFFC’s invitation. Mme. Wang Xiuyun were present at the the meeting. President Li Xiaolin extended her welcome to Mr. Hiromasa and his delegation. She spoke highly of the contribution that Japan Business Federation has made to China’s economic construction and friendly contact of the two peoples. She said, a few days ago, the commemorative conference marking 60th anniversary of establishment of CPAFFC was held in Beijing. The Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the conference and delivered the important speech. He emphasized that the people around the world should unite and struggle jointly for the glorious cause of peace and development. President Xi’s speech firmed the CPAFFC’s confidence on continuously developing the friendly people-to-people exchanges with all nations. President Li Xiaolin said, China and Japan were very important neighboring nations. Since the normalization of the diplomatic ties 40 years ago, the two countries had achieved great results in exchanges and cooperation in various fields. However, it is regrettable that the relation between China and Japan are facing critical difficulties now, which is not compliant with the fundamental interests of the people of both countries and what China would like to see. She hoped the enlightened personages in Japan, included Japan Business Federation could utter more positive, friendly, and righteous voice, to keep promoting friendly contact and cooperation in various fields of the two countries, and safeguard the general interest of China-Japan relation. Mr. Hiromasa thanked President Li Xiaolin for taking time for the meeting in her tight schedule, and congratulated CPAFFC on its 60th anniversary of the establishment. He said, for a long time, the CPAFFC has been working on friendly exchanges between China and foreign countries under the leadership of President Li Xiaolin. He would like to express his sincere respect to this. He will retired from the position of Chairman of Japan Business Federation in this June, but his and Japan Business Federation’s determination on developing Japan- China relation will not change. He will constantly promote the economic and trading cooperation actively, and play his proper part in improving Japan-China relation.

On May 5th, CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin met with the delegation of Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians’ Union headed by Mr. Takamura Masahiko, Vice President of Liberal Democratic Party. Mme. Wang Xiuyun, Director General of Department of Japanese Affairs of CPAFFC and Mr. Endo Kazuya, Minister of Japanese Embassy in China were present at the meeting. President Li welcomed the delegation to visit China and gave positive comments on the efforts made by Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians’ Union for improving and developing China-Japan relations. She said, China-Japan relationship is at the most critical period after the normalization of diplomatic ties between the two countries. It is not favorable for the both countries. The key of the current problem is to? realize the fact of the Japanese militarism starting invasion against China and other neighboring Asian countries. Only through drawing lessons from history, the needs of the future can be geared. She wished Japan could grasp the overall situation with long-term stand and proceed from the fundamental interests of the Chinese and Japanese people, as well as solve the problems through dialogue and negotiation. Mr. Takamura Masahiko thanked President Li for taking time from her tight schedule to meet the delegation and expressed his respect to the CPAFFC for its constant work on developing friendly cooperation between China and other countries of the world. He said, in such a difficult situation of China-Japan relation, the both countries should face the future, and strengthen the exchange and cooperation in economy, culture, youth and other fields, so as to enhance the two people’s mutual understanding and trust, eliminate misunderstanding and jointly create a bright future for the two countries. The delegates from different Japanese political parties also gave their own opinions on China-Japan relation at the meeting.

On April 30th, President Li Xiaolin met with H.E.Mr.Ashok Kumar Kantha, new Ambassador of India to China. Mme. Li expressed her warm welcome to Ambassador Kantha and made an introduction on the work of Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the exchanges of three affiliations of friendship cities twinned between China and India last year. She especially introduced the plan of further developing friendship-city relations between our two countries this year.? Ambassador Kantha spoke highly of CPAFFC’s efforts on developing India-China people-to-people friendship and the local contact between our two countries. He proposed that more friendship cities should be twinned this year.?

On April 29th, President Li Xiaolin met with Lee Sae-Gie, President of the Korea-China Friendship Association. President Li extended welcome to President Lee and indicated that the China-R.O.K. relations enjoyed a steady development at present and the leaders of two countries have kept close contacts and reached important consensuses in various areas like the people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The CPAFFC is willing to strengthen the cooperation with the Korea-China Friendship Association and make positive efforts for the development of bilateral relations. President Li also expressed sympathy to the sinking accident of the South Korean passenger ship Sewol. President Lee thanked President Li for warm reception and briefed her on the recent work of his association as well as future cooperation projects with CPAFFC.

An experimental performance of the dance drama Toki (Red Ibis), planned by the CPAFFC, Publicity Department of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and SMEG Performing Arts Group was put on the stage of Shanghai Oriental Art Center on the evening of April 18th . Mme. Li Xiaolin, President of the CPAFFC, Mr. Xu Lin, Director General of Publicity Department of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Mr. Chen Dong, Deputy Director General of Publicity Department of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Mr. Ohara Masahiro, Consul-General of Japan in Shanghai and representatives of council members of Min-On Concert Association, totaled over 1,000 people watched the performance. This project was launched in 2012 for commemorating 40th anniversary of normalization of relations between China and Japan. Under the concern and direction of President Li Xiaolin, the main staff visited Yang County in Shaanxi and Sado in Japan several times to collect material. After 2 years’ compromise and revision, the large-scale dance drama Toki was finally unveiled to the audience. As President Li Xiaolin said in her speech, Toki was beyond the relations between China and Japan. It emphasized the harmony between human and animal, human and nature, human and human, and reflected human’s longing for peace. In the afternoon of the same day, Shanghai Song and Dance Ensemble signed a letter of intent on performance of Toki in Japan, with? Min-On Concert Association. The Cultural Exchange Department of CPAFFC signed an MOU with SMEG Performing Arts Group.

On the morning of Apr. 16th ,? President Li Xiaolin met with Hon. Mr. Minnikhanov, President of The Republic of Tatarstan of Russia and his delegation, who was visiting China at CPAFFC’s invitation. President Li Xiaolin extended her warm welcome to President Minnikhanov, and briefed him about the basic status and friendship cause with Russia of CPAFFC. She emphasized that, in recent years, the national leaders of the both countries paid great attention to the cooperation in cultural and local exchange. At the same time as CPAFFC has achieved fruitful result in above aspects, it would continuously support and assist The Republic of Tatarstan and other regions in Russia to develop pragmatic cooperations with China, so as to make active efforts for China-Russia strategic and collaborative partnership. President Li warmly invited President Minnikhanov to attend the First Dialogue for Chinese and Russian Governors upcoming in this year. President Minnikhanov said, this visit was the largest one of his visits abroad. He thanked President Li and CPAFFC for the hospitable and high-level reception. He spoke highly of the contribution CPAFFC has made to the cooperation of the Chinese and Russian Regions, and expressed the willingness of working with CPAFFC and giving an impetus to comprehensive strategic and collaborative partnership between China and Russia. H.E. Mr. Denisov, Russian Ambassador to China valued this visit as a warming up foil of President Putin’s visit to China. Vice President Li Jianping of CPAFFC, Director-General Song Jingwu of Department of European and Asian Affairs were present at the meeting.

President Li Xiaolin met with Mr. Bruce Sewell, Apple Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Legal and Government Affairs on April 10th in Beijing. President Li briefed Mr. Sewell on CPAFFC’s forthcoming exchange and cooperation programs with the U.S. and its philanthropic project The Rainbow Bridge. President Li said that CPAFFC has carried out a number of cooperation projects with the U.S. companies which yielded positive social impacts, and the Association would like to explore areas for cooperation with Apple and jointly promote the healthy development of China - US relations and friendly people-to-people exchanges between China and the U.S. Mr. Bruce Sewell thanked President Li for taking time to meet him. He introduced Apple’s development and future plan in China, and emphasized that while Apple is dedicated to its business growth in China, the company is also committed to fulfilling corporate social responsibility and adapting to the Chinese culture and society. Apple hopes to carry out cooperation with CPAFFC in areas such as environmental protection, workers training and innovation in the future.

On Apr 8th,? CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin? and? Secretary-General Li Xikui met with Mr. Lorenzo Ku, President of China and Philippine Trade Promotion Association. At the meeting, the both sides discussed on how to better promote the cooperation in fields of local governments and economy between the two counties. Mr. Ku is one of the pioneers of the cause of China-Philippines Friendship. The CPAFFC awarded him “The People’s Friendship Award”. By his support, China and Philippines have established 3 pairs of? friendship cities. In the last year, he led a delegation of local governments of Philippines to attend The Forum of International Friendship Cities in China. He said, the exchanges and cooperation of the local governments between the two countries is significant of the development of the friendly relationship. He hoped to work closely with CPAFFC and make continuous contribution to the development of friendly relation for the both countries. Zhang Juxiang, Director-General of China Service Center for Friendship and Cooperation with Foreign Countries was present at the meeting.

On April 8th, President Li Xiaolin met with Matsui Shunichi, Chairman of Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China and Mitsubishi Corporation in Eastern Asian District and his delegation. Wang Xiuyun, the director-general of the department of Japanese Affairs of Chinese People''s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), attended the meeting. President Li expressed her compliments on the contributions made by Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China and Mitsubishi Corporation to promoting the friendship between China and Japan for a great many years. President Li said that since the program of “Entering Japanese Company and Experiencing Japanese Culture” for the Chinese university students was jointly held by CPAFFC, China-Japan Friendship Association and Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China in 2007, more than 400 Chinese university students have visited Japan in 13 times. Through visiting Japan, the Chinese university students’ understanding of the Japanese society and economy was deepened, and the friendship of the young generation between the two countries was enhanced. President Li pointed out that at present the relationship between China and Japan was confronted with severe difficulties, which would inevitably influenced the exchanges and cooperation in various fields. This was not what China would like to see. She hoped that the personages of various circles in two countries could work hard together with firm belief, and make more contributions which benefits the friendship of the two countries, including strengthening the exchanges and cooperation in fields of economy, culture, sports, local government and youth, so as to maintain the general interest of China-Japan relationship. Matsui Shunichi congratulated CPAFFC on her 60th anniversary of the establishment and thanked President Li and CPAFFC’s long-term and active efforts on promoting the development of China-Japan relationship. He expressed that, in the difficult situation of China-Japan relationship, the two countries should insist in friendly exchanges and broadening the pragmatic cooperation in various fields, so as to enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. He would like to continuously strengthen the cooperation with CPAFFC in the future, and urge China-Japan relationship to improve with people-to-people contact.
