On September 13, President Li Xiaolin met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc of Vietnam during his visit to China.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sang a high praise for the effort by CPAFFC and China-Vietnam Friendship Association (CVFA) over the years in promoting bilateral friendship. He said that the friendship between Vietnam and China was meticulously cultivated by Chairman Mao Zedong, and Chairman Ho Chi Minh and many Chinese and Vietnamese leaders of elder generations. We should well maintain and develop the bilateral traditional friendship together. He said the current Vietnam-China relationship enjoys an overall sound development and fruitful cooperation in various fields. The maritime issue is the only problem facing the two countries. The Vietnamese side is willing to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to properly handle the problem and to maintain good bilateral relations based on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.
President Li expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Nguyen for the meeting amid his busy schedule. She said that the China-Vietnam traditional friendship of “Comrade and Brothers” is extremely valuable, and the two sides have extensive common interests. She hoped that the maritime issue can be properly solved through negotiation and consultation on the basis of mutual respect, equity and mutual benefit, rather than “losing the main goal for the small gains”. The CPAFFC will make concerted and continuous effort with the Vietnam side to make greater contribution to the bilateral friendship.
Mme Lin Yi, Vice President of CPAFFC, Mr. Zhang Dewei, Vice President of CVFA and former Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Liu Nanlai, Honorary Member and Professor of Law Institute, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and other Chinese friendly figures were present.
